The FV107 Scimitar armored reconnaissance vehicle entered service in 1971. Despite it's age it is still used by British armed forces with reconnaissance regiments.

At it's time it was classified as a light tank due to it's capabilities. It has a lot of similarities with the FV101 Scorpion light tank, except the high velocity Rarden 30-mm cannon instead of 76 mm cannon. The FV107 played an important role during the Falklands War, just like the Scorpion.

FV107 Scimitar armored reconnaissance vehicle It's 30-mm cannon has a rate of fire in 90 rpm and can defeat vehicles and lightly armored targets. There is developed a wide range of projectiles for this cannon, including various types of amour piercing projectiles, high explosive and incendiary. It's secondary armament is a 7.62-mm coaxial machine gun. It also has a smoke grenade dischargers, to launch smoke screens.

The Scimitar has a crew of three - commander, gunner and driver.

This armored reconnaissance vehicle used to be powered by a Jaguar 4.2-liter petrol engine, which was also used in many Jaguar cars at that time. During the Life Extension Programme it was replaced by a superior Cummins 5.9-liter diesel.
